At the office, I would always see Ambroise working in the "musician area" of the warehouse. Day in and day out he would be in his own world creating masterpieces. Occasionally I would always see him just moving to the music and listening to playback. I respect the guy first and foremost for wanting to pursue what he wants to do regardless. The pursuit of perfecting the craft and want to create.. makes Ambroise an true artist.
As time moved on, I begin to learned that Ambroise time was limited. I offered to capture him on film before he goes back home France. I wasn’t able to finish this video until this year (this was filmed in August ’13).
The direction for this video was to showcase Ambroise as an artist and only himself, so no fancy big ideas. The beat of the track and melody is just constant and driving. This idea of "Something" was ambiguous and wanted to leave it to the audience’s imagination.
I wanted do some sort of 90’s nostaglia with the way the video was edit. "What if I had just vcrs to edit with ?" and something that could be on late at night on VH1. I made have cheated with the dissolve transition. Filmed with the Black Magic 2.5k Camera, Prores 422HQ video mode, a slight grade to make the image pop, a 10% change from the original source footage.
